We are seeking applicants for a Senior Tax Accountant opening in our International Tax group. This position is involved in the US tax compliance process for international subsidiaries, has responsibility for US and foreign transactional analysis and is involved in process improvement projects.

Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND KNOWLEDGE:
1. Demonstrated ability to use software packages associated with accounting, i.e. tax systems, spreadsheets, graphics, and word processing.
2. Demonstrated ability to use tax and accounting systems to prepare or approve multiple monthly state tax returns, meeting all deadlines, keeping penalties and interest to a minimum; fully analyzing accounts; or the ability to use tax research skills to put together complex international tax research proposals, complex tax letters and provide these to the businesses or Caterpillar Inc. with no assistance and guidance and minimal review, if any.
3. Demonstrated ability to understand and apply tax research skills to complex state and local, and/or Federal and international tax planning situations; providing solutions to complex tax questions.
4. Demonstrated ability to handle tax audits and/or prepare data and proposed research solutions to complex tax audit questions. Demonstrated ability to put together an audit plan; use audit preparation techniques; do advanced tax research; put together audit materials and data; understand tax audit issues; and help with final research to resolve issues.
5. Demonstrated ability to perform reviews of complex tax letters and analyses prepared by other staff members with no assistance.
6. Demonstrated ability to handle complex tax analysis and account analysis and effectively communicate the results to manager, staff or outside auditors.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: This position requires a Master’s degree in Tax and/or Accounting and a minimum of 4 years exempt experience in tax; or a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of 7 years experience in tax, accounting, collections, customer services, credit, marketing and/or contract administration, of which 4 years must have been exempt experience in tax; or a Bachelor’s degree in any other discipline, a minimum of 21 hours of college level tax and/or accounting courses and a minimum of 7 years experience in tax, accounting, collections, customer services, credit, marketing and/or contract administration, of which 4 years must have been exempt experience in tax.

Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY: Prepare and analyze tax and accounting records and reports. Prepare or review statistical and financial reports, local, state, federal, and/or international tax returns prepared by other staff members. Handle tax audits and other major projects. Provide tax research function on multiple projects for all assigned tax work areas.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. Based upon the assignment, prepares or reviews tax returns and assures the returns are accurate and high quality. The returns may include U.S. and International sales and use tax returns, annual reports, local license tax returns, partnership income returns, or other miscellaneous tax returns. Reconciles and analyzes the tax accounts associated with those returns or reviews the reconciliations prepared by other staff members and makes proper business decisions based on the results. Prepares or reviews tax letters or other reports for Caterpillar Inc. or management.
2. Researches complex tax issues and either acts based upon the research or advises management concerning alternatives. Issues may include U.S. and/or international transactions.
3. Provides tax assistance to subsidiaries, branches or regional offices, dealers, customers, and other departments within the Financial Products Division (FPD).

CRITICAL SUCCESS FACTORS:
1. Meet tax deadlines and minimize tax penalties.
2. Ability to reconcile accounts and resolve any resulting issues.
3. Provide accurate and timely information regarding various taxes to Caterpillar, Inc. or outside agencies.
4. Interpret various tax laws and recommend adjustments when changes occur.
5. Manage multiple projects.
Additional Information
- Experience/knowledge of US Foreign Tax Credit Calculations required
- US tax compliance (preparing and/or reviewing 5471′s) required
- Experience dealing with foreign taxes from transactional perspective desired
- Experience in a financial services corporation desired
- CPA and/or law degree a plus
