Dell is an industry leader providing technology solution to small and medium businesses on a global scale. We are recruiting for the position of Senior Operations Engineer to build infrastructure for Dell’s brand new Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) product offering targeting these customers. We are a rapidly growing, fast paced and technology driven team where each individual’s contribution directly impacts our success.

This role will be working with the engineering team to build scalable and fault-tolerant infrastructure. The person we are seeking is a self-motivated team player, result-oriented and customer focused.

· Design and build systems to increase performance and scalability of Dell’s SaaS solution

· Work directly with engineering teams to design and build scalable systems

· Write scripts to monitor and automate processes

· Document current and future configuration processes and policies

· Think creatively and work independently, while interacting with product and engineering teams

· Define and document current and future configuration processes and policies

· Troubleshoot issues with hardware, software, applications and network

· Directly responsible for site reliability

Qualifications

• A Bachelors degree in Computer Science
• 5+ years of experience with Linux (RPM based distributions)
• Proven ability to plan, build and maintain large, reliable, scalable infrastructure
• Extensive experience with TCP/IP, HTTP, security, storage, Tomcat and/or Mongrel/Unicorn and/or JRuby, MySQL and/or Postgres
• Experience with shell scripting and at least one scripting language (Ruby and/or Python preferred)
• Track record of practical problem solving
• Experience automating systems maintenance tasks
• Experience building fault tolerant, scalable systems
• Experience with hosted commercial and/or open-source monitoring tools such as Nagios and Ganglia or equivalents
• Good written and oral communication skills
• Experience with Ruby on Rails and Java stack performance tuning a big plus
• Experience managing SaaS infrastructure a big plus
• Start-up and Fortune 500 experience preferred
