Canadian company Betatech Inc. has decided to start a Glasgow-based subsidiary, Fortis Manufacturing, LLC, which will eventually bring 100 new jobs to Barren County.
Betatech and Fortis Manufacturing make precision tooling and stamping for the automotive industry, and the Glasgow plant will be the first-ever U.S. manufacturing facility. Fortis Manufacturing is moving into an 80,000-square-foot facility in Highland Glen Industrial Park, and the company plans to be up and running by the end of January, despite the need for extensive infrastructure work in the building and the process of hiring new employees.
Fortis Manufacturing will receive state-level incentives through the Kentucky Business Investment Act as well as local business incentives. In return, the company plans to invest about $5.1 million in purchasing and enhancing its property in Highland Glen, and hire 100 employees within about six months.
Fortis will begin hiring in December or January, according to Kunjah, with about 20 initial hires followed by monthly hiring until the company has hired 100 people. The company expects this to be one of at least three stages of expansion, Kunjah said. In the first phase the company will do stamping, followed by assembly and in its third phase it plans to move outside the automotive industry and begin rail contracts and exploring military contracts. Kunjah sets low estimates for his business, he told the crowd, so he can then exceed expectations. He expects to do even more than his current plans and make a bigger impact on the Barren County economy, and Fortis plant manager Paul MacLain agreed. Local officials and contractors have inspired so much confidence, MacLain said, that the company has big plans for the future.
