The Yard House restaurant chain is looking to hire up to 250 people at its new Legacy Place location in Dedham, MA. The restaurant is scheduled to open in March 2010.

Allstate Insurance Co. is planning to open a customer information center in San Antonio, Texas. The center scheduled to open in May 2010, will employ 600 full-time workers.

The center will provide after-hours support for Allstate agencies in Texas and across the country and will handle direct sales of Allstate insurance products.

LabCorp to bring 346 jobs to Triad
One of the world's largest medical-testing companies is expanding its North Carolina operations and creating 346 jobs in the Triad.

Burlington-based LabCorp is consolidating its billing operations in Greensboro and closing 24 centers across the country. The company is cutting costs as the recession has weakened demand for its medical, drug and genetic testing.

Company officials considered Danville, Va., for the expansion, but chose Greensboro after receiving the promise of up to nearly $1 million in tax breaks and other incentives from the state, Guilford County and Greensboro.

The company will create 346 jobs and transfer 50 to Greensboro from a Burlington billing operation. The new jobs will pay average annual wages of $26,027. That's less than the Guilford County average of $38,116, according to state data. More

More than 20 companies have signed up to provide job opportunities to 240 Detroit Public Schools students as part of a pilot program that kicked off Thursday.

Sixty students at each of four schools -- Frederick Douglass Academy for Young Men, Western International High School, Detroit International Academy for Women and Henry Ford High School -- are to get 11 weeks of job-readiness training during the school day and 10 high school credits. More info

Pack's Tavern, the restaurant and pub under construction next to Pack Square Park [Asheville, NC], is hiring 150 employees to staff the operation when it opens in April.

Management is holding a "hiring expo" 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesday at the Renaissance Asheville Hotel [31 Woodfin Street Asheville, NC] to recruit for the tavern and its upstairs venue, Century Room on the Park, managing partner Steve Wright said. Positions will range from "busboys to dishwashers to cooks, servers and bartenders — every (restaurant and bar) job that you can imagine is open," he said. Training will begin in March. SeaWorld Orlando is hiring seasonal workers. The resort says it plans to add almost 1,000 seasonal jobs to handle peaks in the spring and summer. So far, 200 seasonal workers have been hired and the resort is looking to hire another 750 employees by mid-March. U.S. Bank said Wednesday it is hiring 60 employees to expand its credit card issuing technology unit in Brookfield, WI. Bus maker's $68 million facility to drive up jobs
Golden, Colo.-based Proterra Inc. announced during a news conference on Thursday at Clemson University's International Center for Automotive Research it will invest $68 million to build a 240,000-square-foot manufacturing plant at CU-ICAR and create more than 1,300 jobs over the next seven years.

The company will build its BE-35 fast-charge battery-electric transit bus, a vehicle that business leaders said will drive the region's reputation for collaboration, innovation and cutting-edge green technologies in the automotive sector. SOURCE

Ford Motor Co. plans to add 1,200 workers when it begins production of a new version of the Ford Explorer SUV at its Torrence Avenue plant on Chicago's South Side later this year.

Those new union workers will be the first hired by Ford at sharply reduced wages, under a 2007 contract that allows Ford, General Motors and Chrysler to fill some jobs at about half the pay of what current workers made when they started, and with lower benefits, the Wall Street Journal reported today. The Rendell administration (PA) is hiring 68 new staffers to oversee natural gas drilling operations in the Marcellus Shale formation, a major exception to state government's shrinking payroll in tight fiscal times.

Belk Inc. the Charlotte-based department store chain plans to add 39 jobs in the buying, merchandise planning and private brands areas at its corporate offices.
